: La déco « Do It Yourself » .
History of the DIY trend

DIY is an acronym that stands for " Do It Yourself " in English. In other words: do it yourself. The concept of "do it yourself" or "DIY" is the idea of carrying out projects or activities yourself instead of having them done by someone else . The movement originated in the early 1900s in North America. Initially, it was carried by magazines aimed at rural residents. With the aim of helping them acquire and maintain technical and practical knowledge. These were real guides. Designed to know how to do everything yourself when you lived on a farm or in a small village.
The art of DIY today
DIY can include simple things like repairing something broken at home, but it can also include more complex projects like building a piece of furniture or creating a decorative object. DIY is often seen as a way to save money, but it can also be seen as a way to achieve personal growth or let off steam by doing something productive. DIY can also be a way to share knowledge and skills with others interested in this type of activity.
Today, DIY has become a real way of life . With the rise of blogs and social networks, articles, videos, and tutorials on the subject are multiplying and cover different areas. Making your own homemade cosmetics, creating your own clothes, recycling objects, or even turning to responsible finance or even learning DIY.
DIY for everyone: the art of DIY
From the 1950s onwards , magazines multiplied, became more specialized and diversified . DIY magazines were still very popular. But issues focusing on sewing, painting, small decorative objects, etc. appeared. Some articles were even aimed directly at children.
The art of DIY as a way of life the art of DIY
A homemade activity
DIY and the internet...
The democratization of the Internet has made transmission accessible to all , and skills are easy to acquire. Many tutorial sites are emerging. On the web, they offer simple decorating ideas for beginners (candlesticks, table mats, bath mats, etc.). And for the more experienced, more complicated creations. Such as garden furniture, renovation of premises, etc. All with only two watchwords: recycling and low prices! So, do you like it?
Enzo Mari, iconic designer of the DIY art movement

Enzo Mari is an architect, designer , illustrator , and theorist . This bearded old man, now 85 years old, is something of a guardian of design ethics. He is often seen as the " critical conscience of design ," and for good reason: his work as a designer is focused on design theory.
The art of DIY born from a social and economic movement
Enzo Mari is a utopian . He wants to change the world of distribution . Influenced by Marxist theories, his ambition and objective is to democratize furniture manufacturing. To do this, he tried to create direct links between creators and consumers, without going through the distribution sector . He places the user at the center of the process , and thus places himself on the margins of the design of this era by proposing a series of anti-industrial objects .
" Proposta per autoprogettazione" will not pass into the hands of manufacturers and distributors. He designed this series of furniture so that they are easily achievable. Thus, their manufacture requires only standard DIY materials such as wooden planks , a hammer, saw, nails and glue.
A significant statement in the history of design and DIY art

The art of DIY, an ecological art movement
DIY

Beyond the DIY trend, it's now easy to adopt eco-friendly daily habits. Several movements have emerged in recent years, often with the goal of consuming less, but better.
The art of DIY even in fashion
For their part, fashion lovers will not fail to limit their purchases of new clothes to focus on second-hand . A real gesture for the planet when we know that textiles are ranked fifth among the industries generating the most greenhouse gas emissions, third for water consumption and second for land use, according to Ademe ( environmental agency).
An activity accessible to all
The art of DIY allows you to unleash your creativity by making clothes and baby accessories. But also small furniture, garden items, and decorative objects. Knitting, sewing, and embroidery have thus become trendy activities again. Even though they were reserved for our grandmothers just a few years ago. As you can see, the time has come for recycling . We also talk about upcycling , meaning recycling from above, in other words, recycling waste.
The art of DIY at Aire
At Aire, we also offer DIY activities, including this screen printing kit. It's a kit that lets you make dinosaurs using the principle of screen printing. Not bad, right? So now it's your turn ;) Are you ready to get into the art of DIY too!
Do you have a crazy urge to decorate your home or arrange your terrace? And, of course, do you want to do everything yourself ? It has become one of the trendiest activities in France: “Do It Yourself” decoration . But perhaps the art of creating objects yourself has always been in vogue… If you are only now wanting to transform old objects and materials lying around your home into a unique piece, here are some tips for mastering the art of DIY .

He challenges the consumer society by distributing manufacturing plans for free . Today this seems almost normal to us. This is a first in the history of design. Enzo Mari is a designer who criticizes mass production and wishes to avoid it. Following this stance, Enzo Mari is established as the father of self-production , and this exhibition, Proposta per autoprogettazione, marks the beginning of this movement. Behind this movement, there are also political and philosophical issues . DIY is a practice that questions the issue of "making," but also of " empowerment ." DIY raises fundamental questions about our economic and social model, our vision of work, but also our relationship with objects.

The mini speaker for the home
To begin with, the mini home speaker is entirely made using 3D printing . We will have other opportunities to discuss this additive manufacturing technology in our blog. This solution therefore allows us to manufacture with precision , and only to order . No more wasted resources due to large series.

A brief definition of open source
Here's a quick definition to get you started. The open source model involves making software source code available to the public for community review, modification, and sharing. Collaboration and sharing are the foundations of this development model, which aims to create high-quality and reliable software. Contributors can suggest improvements, report bugs, and work together to improve software performance. This development model is therefore based on sharing and collaboration.
The base: the speaker is therefore Bluetooth compatible
Let's take a closer look at the engine
The Aire mini home speaker is based on an ESP32 microcontroller . We can compare this chip to the "brain" of our speaker.

What did we put into the brain of the mini home speaker?
We added the Squeezelite-esp32 to our chip. This is its internal software, also called Firmware. Find the project on Github. The community around the firmware is simply fantastic! We thank them again here for this work and this passion! The speaker is Bluetooth 5 compatible but it can also behave as a Squeezelite Receiver. Watch your eyes.
Quick clarification: Squeezelite is an open source project that allows you to run an audio streaming server on a compatible computer or device. It is designed to be lightweight and fast, with low system resource consumption. Squeezelite is compatible with the Logitech Media Server audio streaming protocol .
This means you can use the speaker to stream music from a computer or network storage. The Squeezelite project is then used to build home networked music systems. You can stream music from a centralized music library to multiple audio playback devices in your home .

So what exactly is a Squeezelite Receiver?
Multiroom with Squeezelite
It is possible to connect multiple speakers with Squeezelite. Using the Logitech Media Server audio streaming protocol , Squeezelite Server can be configured to send music to multiple speakers simultaneously (the Squeezelite receiver). This allows the user to stream music to different rooms in their home. However, the exact setup will depend on the model and configuration of each speaker, so it requires some technical knowledge to properly set up such a device.
And what about Apple AirPlay?
What is a DSP?
DSP stands for Digital Signal Processing . It is a computer technology that uses mathematical algorithms to process digital signals , such as audio signals. DSP is often used in loudspeakers to improve sound quality by correcting distortion or adjusting sound frequencies. DSP can also be used to improve the frequency response of speakers , adjust volume, and process other aspects of sound. These filters can be built into the speaker itself, or placed externally and connected to the speaker via a cable or wireless connection.

What's hidden inside your audio amplifier?
We use the TAS5711 amplifier from Texas Instruments. It is a digital audio integrated circuit. It is used in audio systems to control and process digital audio signals (I2S inputs). The TAS5711 has a Class D DSP (Digital Signal Processor). This means you can modify the amplifier's response curve to improve the sound quality of your mini home speaker.
The amplifier then converts the digital audio signal into an analog signal to power the speakers. It is therefore often used in speakers, audio systems, and home entertainment systems to improve sound quality by correcting distortion or adjusting audio frequencies. The TAS5711 offers exceptional sound quality, low distortion, and very low power consumption.
The TAS5711 has 2 8-band equalizers for the full-range channels and 4 EQs for the SUB section.

What is an equalizer?
An equalizer is an audio tool that allows you to adjust the individual sound levels of frequencies in an audio signal . It works by adjusting the volume levels for different frequencies in the signal, thus compensating for differences in the frequency response of different audio systems or listening environments. Equalizers can therefore be used to improve sound quality by adjusting which frequencies are “over” or “under” represented in the audio signal. This also allows you to customize the sound according to your personal preferences. Equalizers can also be implemented physically or in software (like our DSPs) and can be included in audio systems (like in the Aire mini speaker), audio software, or mobile apps.
Can I change the response curve of my mini home speaker?
The answer is yes! It's entirely possible to modify the response curve of your mini home speaker. But you'll need to put in a little elbow grease to get there. We'll return to this topic soon. It will surely give rise to a dedicated blog article because this part is very technical. Don't hesitate to contact us for a specific project. We can discuss it in order to find solutions to your needs.
Can I have a party with the Aire mini home speaker?
The Aire mini home speaker has a 20W RMS amplifier with a 20W Faital Pro speaker (the Faital Pro 3FE25 4 Ohm).

The Aire mini speaker won't have enough bass to liven up a party for six people. So don't get your hopes up about this speaker. It's perfectly suited for cozy use, with family, or for drinks... But we don't recommend it for hosting a party :)
Now the sequel
The 2.1 open speaker by Aire
The Aire team designed the first prototype of an open, Bluetooth-enabled speaker in 2.1 audio format. It was in the Aire workshop in 2021. The speaker was designed to deliver superior sound quality thanks to its two full-range channels and a dedicated low-frequency channel.
Ultimately, the first prototype of the Bluetooth 2.1 speaker was a significant step forward for the Aire team in creating an innovative, high-quality product that meets user needs. The photo of the first prototype shows what the speaker looked like in its early days.
Please note that the electronic card of the Qube speaker still allows this type of speaker to be powered 😎

I hope you know more about your Aire mini speaker. I also hope you've identified some ways to customize it. For example, you can build a small setup with a dedicated amplifier (our electronics board), two cube-shaped speakers, and a subwoofer to powerfully reproduce the lower end of the audio spectrum (also called low frequencies). Don't hesitate to contact us for your audio projects. We hope you enjoy this article. We will, of course, update it based on your feedback and your projects!
Today I'm introducing you to a new mini Pegboard. Yes, we decided to create a new Pegboard that can fit on any wall. And it's a kind of magician: it creates storage and decorative space even when you don't have any! It's magic!
A mini version of a perforated panel
Beyond being magical, it's practical! Because it doesn't need a lot of space, it can be put anywhere! Even if you have a small wall surface, I'm sure you can find a little place for it. Colorful, fun and above all too cute, we'll tell you a little more about this Valchromat Pegboard.
An all-terrain perforated panel
Practical as a pocket emptier or bedside table
It can find its place in all the rooms of the house, whether in the entrance where it can be used as a pocket emptier, to put your keys, your papers or your transport ticket. You can even put your essentials there, in winter for example, you can put your little scarf, your gloves there. You can empty your pockets when you come home because when you change your jacket it happens to forget the next morning and that's the drama! But you can also put things there that you don't want to forget in the morning when leaving for work with a little reminder for example.
It can also be used in your bedroom as a nightstand. It's modern, aesthetic, and there's no risk of spilling its contents or tripping over it. You can place your nighttime essentials and water on it, just like on a nightstand! This makes our small everyday items very accessible, always within reach.
But also in the kitchen
You can find it in your kitchen with all sorts of spices, salt, pepper. All your utensils that you often need are practical because they are accessible. For your cutlery, your cups, and even to display your most stylish utensils! It can be used as decoration because decorating in the kitchen is not always easy. If you like color and design, then this pegboard is made for your kitchen. It can also be in pairs, in different colors, or not, for a colorful and offbeat effect.
Or in the bathroom!
It can also be found in the bathroom to store your daily care products, creams, serums, or even your favorite jewelry. It's once again accessible, so if you don't have or no longer have floor space, it's ideal. No need to add a small piece of furniture that will have to fit into a very small space. Place your Pegboard in your bathroom and you're done.
The possibilities of this pegboard are endless, as it can even be used as an assistant around a baby's changing table, for example. All the products are within easy reach; it's quick and efficient, and also very pretty. It can also be used in a child's room, with a little decoration or even as a game for older children. It may interest more than one child to play at putting the accessories in the holes, all by themselves, like a grown-up! To choose their own decoration. This can be a very cool tool that evolves with the child. Because everything on the Pegboard can be removed and replaced, there are endless possibilities! And it can completely adapt to different decorations, different styles, etc.
It's a small and discreet wall shelf that's easy to install! It's small and very lightweight; just drill two holes in the wall and voilà, your Pegboard is installed.
No need to make it complicated as we can make it simple, right?
The perforated panel: a real ally for your interior
Since they are colorful, it adds a touch of color anywhere in your home. It is so small and adaptable in any room of the house that you will definitely find a place for it. A small piece of wall, you add a mini Pegboard and you add a new functionality to the room. It makes everyday life easier, it makes your belongings, your reminders, your photos, more visible. It is a bit like the competitor of drawers in the end 🙂
But we are not fans of drawers because it is true that they are pleasant because they give a very tidy and very clean look to the room. But very often we forget what is in them, when we need it we no longer know where it is. We accumulate and then in the end it is tidy but we can no longer find anything because it is a mess. This little Pegbaord will encourage you to tidy the room and leave only the essentials: what you need, or even just decoration to dress up your room. But when you want to find something it will be simpler and more obvious. And it saves you time on a daily basis.
These little perforated panels were made from scraps of wood that had been sitting around the workshop for hours. They were making us feel so sad, so we transformed them 😂
In reality, it's true that we had a lot of scraps, and you know now that Aire is a committed company that hates waste and likes to transform things, so we racked our brains to find a way to recycle our wood scraps! And that's when this idea came to us. To make a fun, colorful, practical and above all cute mini Pegboard.

Manufacturers produce MDF ( Medium Density Fiberboard ) by bonding wood fibers with a synthetic resin under high pressure and temperature to create a composite material. Manufacturers use this material to make furniture , doors , flooring, and decorative panels . Here's the ultimate guide to MDF : everything you need to know about this innovative material!
What is MDF?
Carpenters and cabinetmakers often use MDF , or medium density fiberboard, as a material in carpentry and cabinetmaking. Manufacturers compress wood fibers under high pressure and high temperatures to create this material. This process results in a smooth , dense , and uniform MDF panel. The advantage is that unlike other types of wood, it does not contain knots or grains , making it easy to work with and paint . So if you are looking to get into carpentry or cabinetmaking and are looking for a material that is easy to work with, MDF could be your solution ;)
A material with many advantages
MDF is also cheaper than solid wood and more durable than plywood, making it a popular choice for DIY and renovation projects. It's also eco-friendly , as manufacturers make it from recycled wood fibers and sawmill waste. Not bad, right? Manufacturers can not only divide MDF into different colors, but they also offer several types of MDF.

However, MDF also has some drawbacks. It is less resistant to moisture than solid wood . If the material is exposed to water, it can warp or crack. Due to its resin and glue content, MDF can emit toxic fumes (VOCs) if it is not well ventilated. Therefore, care should be taken not to expose it in a humid area. Also, check with professionals to ensure that the wood will not release toxic fumes. Therefore, it is important to take appropriate precautions when handling MDF . Such as using a protective mask and ensuring adequate ventilation.
What are VOCs or chemicals?
How do you know if it is present?
There are several methods to determine if a material contains VOCs:
- Look for information on the product's packaging or label. Manufacturers are often required to list the VOC content on the product's label or packaging.
- Use VOC detection kits . There are kits available at specialty stores that can help identify the presence of VOCs in materials. These kits often use chemical tests to detect the presence of VOCs.
- Use a VOC detector . VOC detectors are electronic devices designed to measure the concentration of VOCs in the air. You can use a detector to measure the amount of VOCs emitted by a particular material.
And there you have it, now you know how to protect yourself against these toxic substances and choose your material wisely.
How to define the durability of a material?
The durability of a material is a measure of its ability to resist wear, degradation, and alteration over time. Several factors, including the material's chemical composition, mechanical and physical properties, exposure to extreme environmental conditions, and care and maintenance, influence how long it can be used effectively before needing replacement or repair. Durability can be assessed based on several criteria, such as:
- Corrosion resistance : The ability of a material to resist corrosion due to adverse environmental conditions, such as moisture, chemicals, salts, and other contaminants.
- Dimensional stability : The ability of a material to retain its original dimensions and shapes under varying environmental conditions, such as changes in temperature and humidity.
- UV resistance : The ability of a material to resist fading and degradation caused by the sun's UV rays.
- Fracture resistance : The ability of a material to resist fracture under applied loads.
- The length of time a material can be used effectively before it needs to be replaced or repaired is measured to assess its useful life .
Sustainability has become a major concern in the design and construction of products and infrastructure. Therefore, by using sustainable materials, we can reduce the environmental impact of our activities . We can minimize maintenance costs and extend the life of products and infrastructure.
Why use MDF?

Here are some reasons why one might choose to use MDF:
- Cost : MDF is less expensive than many other building materials, such as solid wood or plywood, making it an economical choice for new construction and renovation projects.
- Ease of Machining: MDF is an easy-to-work material, so it is easily machinable. It can be cut, drilled, milled, engraved, planed, sanded, painted, and stained to meet specific requirements.
- Uniformity : MDF is a homogeneous material, meaning it has a uniform density across its entire surface.
- Warp Resistance : MDF does not warp easily due to humidity or temperature changes.
- Environmentally friendly : Manufacturers produce MDF using recycled wood and other recycled materials. Additionally, it can be recycled and reused in other construction projects.
- Versatility : A wide variety of applications, including furniture, doors, moldings, decorative panels, flooring and ceiling panels, are covered by the use of MDF
