Rencontré Déco #14 : un intérieur à son image, Ninon Petras studio - Quark

Aire continues its encounters! Discover how Ninon Petras Studio designed her apartment. She shares all her tips for creating an interior that reflects your personality.

Can you introduce yourself and why you share your interior in your image?

My name is Ninon. I'm a fashion art director for a company that designs clothing for law enforcement. We also have a men's ready-to-wear brand. I'm a content creator on YouTube. I started my channel six months ago. It's called Ninon Petras Studio. I created this channel after moving into my current apartment. I wanted to share my passion for decorating and designing. I'm a very creative person; I like to have an interior that reflects my personality. I've been working in fashion for six years. I want to stay in a creative world while giving advice.

My partner and I live in Bagnolet, near Paris. We have about fifty square meters of space and a 10 square meter terrace. It's not a tiny space. But there are two of us inside. That's why we had to redefine the uses of each room. We had to adapt and find solutions, especially with teleworking. We created an environment that reflects both of us; we wanted an interior that reflected us. That's also what's important when you move in: taking into account the needs and desires of all the residents. That's what we tried to do when decorating and furnishing the apartment.

Why did you decide to create a YouTube channel about storage and well-being?

I've always been interested in storage. Decorating is my first passion. I consider these two subjects to be closely linked. I reflect on these themes in my work, whether in fashion or decoration. I value clothing as much as interior design. I can see that we have the same issues in stores and at home. I mainly talk about decoration and trends. But I also have many videos that focus on tips for optimizing small spaces and creating an interior that reflects your image. I discuss second-hand, responsible purchasing, vintage, and second-hand items. I find these to be relevant topics in the current context.

How did you come up with the idea of sharing the well-being of decoration?

I've always wanted to share my knowledge and passions. I've been writing blog posts for about ten years. Video is a new challenge for me. I'd like to gain skills in this area and build a community. I'm happy; it's starting to work. I'm getting great feedback!

We can find sources of information about tidying and organizing on the internet. But I think video is an interesting format, which allows us to visualize and illustrate concepts. Decorating is a very visual thing. I think words are not enough to explain something. I like to show the inspirations and examples I can find. This way, it's much more understandable and meaningful for the people who listen to me. Video is more immersive.

How did you feel during the development?

When we moved in, the apartment was completely empty. The kitchen hadn't been designed yet. For each room, I mixed moods, styles, materials, textures, and colors that we liked. We also studied the uses we would have in the apartment. I knew which room we would use the most and where we would work. We're not used to eating in the kitchen. We eat in the living room. It's important to know this in advance to define the furniture and layout choices. I recommend this in my videos : redefine the needs and uses we have for each room. This is how we can optimize our layout and adapt it to our lifestyle. You have to adapt the interior to your image.

Where should you start when you want to redesign your space?

Once the space is already set up, you need to define what works and what doesn't. You also need to define what you don't like or don't work for you. Then, you need to redefine how you use each room. The apartment or house should adapt to your lifestyle, not the other way around. You shouldn't be subject to the layout of things. Your choices should be guided by your lifestyle. The flow of energy in your apartment is important. You need to make sure you leave passageways.

Once all this research and putting into words what we want to do is done, we must try to find an inspiring visual . We must take the time to look for photos, put them together and see what matches in terms of color. It's easier to project yourself that way.

Where do you look for your ideas and inspiration?

I'm quite creative. I'm always searching for new inspiration on the internet. I'm always on the lookout for new design ideas. I also subscribe to interior design magazines. This allows me to stay up to date on trends. I attend a lot of design and fashion conferences through my job. This inspires me and gives me ideas for content. I recommend staying open-minded, curious, and bold. I recommend daring to make unusual choices and trying to take risks.

In your opinion, what is the first thing to do when you want to redesign your space?

We need to start room by room. We need to study the uses we have in each room and each place. We need to ask ourselves what we do in each room, how much time we spend there, and which area we pass through the most. This way, we can optimize and become aware of the furniture that is taking up space. Before even thinking about buying new things, we need to prioritize. We ask ourselves what we already have and how we can optimize it.

How did this process go?

In my videos, I show the shortened version: the process of creating the decoration. Then, I show the layout and the final result. These are quite long processes. I decorate the apartment for myself. So I take the time to do it . It's not a contract with a client, there is no deadline. Things are done gradually according to what I find. I buy a lot of second-hand. The creation depends on what I find.
